TRANSITION

BALANCED & BAREfoot

HOOF CARE

Natural Hoof Care for Optimal Hoof Condition

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Vicki Majaury  I have been in love with horses all of my life and I have been involved with horses for almost 40 years. I grew up using traditional methods for training and care and as I grew older I searched for different ways of training and communicating with horses. I was always thinking there must be easier and better ways to accomplish my goals. After seeking out natural horsemanship trainers and taking much of there advice I decided to attend equine Guelph on line courses at the age of 40 and further my education on care of my horses for best practices with a science based best practices and that is how I learned I had a huge interest in Science especially Anatomy of the equine hoof and stay apparatus. I completed my certificate in equine studies along with a certificate in equine business. upon completion I studied barefoot trimming and had the pleasure of taking a trimming course with one the leading barefoot rehabilitation trimmers in the world "Pete Ramey".

Our mission at "Transition Balanced Barefoot hoof care" is to offer horses an alternative to traditional metal shoes when transitioning from shod to barefoot. Transition specializes in sizing and fitting hoof boots. We are committed  to helping  you on your way to building the best sole and hoof wall that the horse can acquire from proper husbandry, diet, and regular balanced barefoot trims, along with the help of non traditional hoof protection while building the strongest hoof possible. Many horses are kept on soft pasture and seldom see gravel and rocks in their day to day lives and this can cause sensitivity in our horses hoofs.  Our region has a lot of wet muddy weather in the spring and the fall  here in Ontario. I really like to use hoof boots in the spring to insure my horses don't  suffer from sole bruising.

Riding horses in the spring without any protection after being in wet conditions for prolonged periods of time can cause lameness caused by sole bruising that can abscess, or also thrush can become a problem, This can make for a short riding season . Why not be preventative and protect our horses hooves before these problems arise?

I like to think of it like my self wearing winter boots and shoes all winter and then taking them off and running barefoot over my gravel driveway in the spring. How would that feel to you? Why do we expect it would be any different for our horse? I believe their hooves need to be conditioned to except this, but if conditioning takes place gradually with proper diet and exercise then many horses over time can travel barefoot over gravel and rocks fully sound with out worry of stone bruising.

Their are also the horses that because of genetics or just lack of good balanced hoof care over years that may never build the natural hoof enough to travel barefoot when being exercised without having tender hooves and the help of a boot for protection can make all of the difference in the world. Easy on and easy off!

What if there is injury to your horses hoof and you need some extra protection? I feel that booting can really help aid in healing an injury faster by protecting the hoof wall and the sole, But many boots do not have enough air flow and cause other problems to occur such as harboring bacteria to grow. I find that Scoot Boots provide lots of air flow because of there design with the open toe and sides along with the open bulb area. They're light weight and they are the closest you can get to natural that I have found in a hoof boot and that I have found on the market so far. I feel there traction is unbeatable.

I tried them and loved them so much that I decided to become a stockist.

I am confident that you will love them as much as I do.

ABOUT US

Transition is about change and critical thinking. I welcome any one that wants to follow us on our journey to of building the best hoof for our equine partner that we can. I have been intrigued with the bio-mechanics of the equine hoof for many years and have been striving to find alternative hoof protection solutions for over a decade. Many hoof boots have worked well for me but Scoot Boots have been the easiest boots and the least bulky so far. They also have incredible traction on most surfaces and studs can be used with the boot for icy conditions. My horses hooves always dry quickly even while having the boots on so thrush is not as much as a concern as it can be with other hoof boots that I have used in the past. I also love to hear ideas that you may have to also work towards the same  goal. Please get in touch.
